The Cute One

Currently mesmerized by the Paul McCartney: Chaos and Creation Live at Abbey Road on PBS.

It's just Paul goofing about at Abbey Road studios with Nigel Godrich capturing some sounds and looping them back. Then Paul adds harmonium or guitar or vibrating wine glasses and a Beatles or Wings song emerges out of the noise.

Super entertaining.

Paul Haytaz beware: there are simply oodles of cute McCartney "Zoop! and there we are, SING ALONG EVER'BODY" motormouth commentary. If you don't appreciate his warmth and friendliness, you're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

the sonic equivalent of a Russian robot wrestling a reticulating python.

Chuck Klosterman reviews the new Guns n' Roses album "Chinese Democracy" with hilarious results.

gettit?

Some gems:

"I've thought about this record more than I've thought about China, and maybe as much as I've thought about the principles of democracy."

"This is a little like when that grizzly bear finally ate Timothy Treadwell: Intellectually, he always knew it was coming. He had to. His very existence was built around that conclusion. But you still can't psychologically prepare for the bear who eats you alive, particularly if the bear wears cornrows."

"What finally made him decide, 'You know, I've weighed all my options and all their potential consequences, and I'm going with the Mexican vampire accent. This is the vision I will embrace. But only on that one line! The rest of it will just be sung like a non-dead human.'"

"there needs to be a soft part, a hard part, a falsetto stretch, some piano plinking, some R&B bullshit, a little Judas Priest, subhuman sound effects, a few Robert Plant yowls, dolphin squeaks, wind, overt sentimentality, and a caustic modernization of the blues."

"It's like if Jeff Lynne tried to make Out Of The Blue sound more like Fun House, except with jazz drumming and a girl singer from Motown."

Hey, what's that?

Where the gold at?

Questions I have:

1. What is the guy holding the bong reading? Instructions? A manual? A note?

2. What is in all of those boxes? Did they just move in? Or is this a business?

3. When were they painting using that gallon of house paint? Recently? Or a long time ago?

4. Why does he have those jacked-up pants with the weird Juan Gris patches?

5. What does that plug hook up to? An overhead light? Christmas lights?

6. Why are there only two velour chairs with that dining room set? Are there two more in another part of the house? Is the photographer sitting on one of them?

7. What's with the African motif on the walls? Is this in Africa? Is this guy a 419 scammer?

8. What's on his hat? Is it a whale cresting out of the water? Like on those life insurance commercials?

9. What else is on the table? It looks like a manuscript, a roll of thin copper wire and a ceramic dinosaur or a row of Testor's model paints?

10. What's in his pocket? He's got a chain hooked to something...is it a wallet or a pocket watch?

11. And hey...what the fuck is up with that crazy dwarf wearing aqua socks? Is he waiting for the guy to fire it up? Did he bring the weed like some Jamaican Lucky Charms leprechaun? Are those Hypercolor shorts that he's wearing?

Please let me know.

I won't sleep until I hear back from you on this topic.

Mr. Fusion

So here's a little movie showing some of the stuff that my company Macrovision (via All Media Guide/AllMusic.com) has been working on in the home entertainment space.

The presentations show some of the cool junk we've been talking abour: User profiles for DVR settings (meaning your show recommendations won't be confounded by your kid's obsession with Yo Gabba Gabba), the ability to access your music and movies from anywhere in the house (car/laptop/cellphone), viewing your digital camera photos on your fat large screen TV, getting recommendations for Video On Demand or "Catch-Up TV" as the cool kids are calling it, and ...oh yeah... music recommendations based on Style, Mood and Theme.

Check it out:

(like on the A-Team)

This is pretty awesome. A cop puts "1974" instead of the correct date on this speeding ticket, and the guy comes up with a pretty amazing story involving time travel, an infant driving at Mach 1 and equipping his car with an automatic license plate flipping device. It's pretty awesome.
